The swearing-in ceremony on Saturday 17th July was held at the presidential palace in Damascus and attended by more than 600 people, including members of parliament, political, party, media, religious figures and families of the martyrs and the injured.

The elections “have proven the strength of popular legitimacy that the people have conferred to the state”, al-Assad, 55, said in his inauguration speech.

The main points in the speech were:

  • The door of national reconciliation will remain open. "We tell each and every one of those who bet on the demise of the homeland, you are exploited by the enemies of our country against your own people, and the revolution with which they deceived you is an illusion."

  • The title of the coming stage is to increase production and to open doors for investments.

  •  3000 facilities are under construction in Syria.

  •  The main impediment to investment in Syria is the Syrian funds frozen in the Lebanese banks. "The Syrian money frozen in the Lebanese banks are 40 billion and 60 million." Overcoming this obstacle is associated with the change in the current circumstances in Lebanon.

  •  Renewable energy is the way to resolve the problem of electricity outage.

  •  We will liberate all areas in Syria from the Turkish and US occupation forces and their terrorists.

  •  We salute all honest Syrian residents, who resist occupation forces, in north of Syria.

  •  Syria will never abandon the Palestinian cause.

  •  We trust our Russian and Iranian friends.

  •  The enemies of Syria bets on turning Syrian citizens into mercenary.

  •  Let’s get ready for the future, let’s confront frustration with hope, let's confront inaction with action and let’s prepare for further construction and liberation, so that the homeland restores life.
